"1229 Trooper Albert (Abert) Baxter, of Whitton, NSW,  (was a veteran)  of the Boer War (1899-1902), as evidenced by the ribbon of the Queens South Africa Medal above his left breast pocket. Baxter served one year with the 6th Imperial (NSW) Bushman, nine months with the Bechuanaland Rifles, and six months with the Natal Regiment... Trooper, later Corporal, Baxter was killed when his patrol was attacked by Turkish forces near El Magim in Palestine on 16 May 1917, and is buried at Gaza War Cemetery..." - SOURCE (www.awm.gov.au)
