30 Apr 1917: Wounded AIF WW1, Private, 241, 39th Infantry Battalion, German Withdrawal to Hindenburg Line and Outpost Villages, Multiple SW to left leg, arm and chest sustained in the line at Ploegsteert Wood, Belgium. Evacuated to 2nd Aust CCS where he died of his wounds on 2 May 1917.

Mrs. M. Turnbull of 606 Talbot street, has been officially advised by the Defence Department, through the Rev. E.W. Hardy that her husband, Private J.C. McN. Turnbull, had died of wounds on 2nd inst.  The deceased who went to the front over a year ago, leaves five young children.
