Biography

"THE LATE PRIVATE R. G. COLLIGAN.

The late Priavte R. G. Colligan, who was killed in action in France on August 3, was the youngest son of Mr. and Mrs. J. W. Colligan, of St. Peters, and was in his 29th year. He enlisted on July 27, 1916, and left on October 27, arriving in Egypt on November 27, and afterwards going on to France. Previous to enlistment he had been employed as a plumber by his father, who is a builder and contractor. He was educated by the Sisters of St. Joseph, Beulah road, and afterwards at the Christian Brothers' Colleges, in Adelaide and Perth. During the residence of his family in Perth he did service at the Fire Brigade Station, and passed examinations in first aid. His father, Mr. Colligan, was on the school committee in Perth, and built the church at Highgate Hill for Bishop Gibney. He is also the builder of the new school church of the Holy Name at Ellangowan, St. Peters." - from the Adelaide Southern Cross 08 Sep 1916 (nla.gov.au)
