Law Reporter
Retires
Mr Tom Parrington, Herald law courts reporter for 32 years, has retired. About 40 friends representing Bench, Bar and court staffs said good-bye to him at an informal gathering yesterday evening. Mr Parrington began his newspaper career at 19 with the Port Melbourne Standard, and was with a Hobart paper when the First World War broke out. After four years' service with the AIF he returned to Melbourne and joined The Herald court staff in 1919. In 1927 he went abroad on leave of absence and worked for the News Chronicle and Herald Cable Service. Outside journalism his main interest is the stage. He has collaborated in the production of several musical shows and pantomimes. For some years he has been secretary of the Yorick Club.
