15 Sep 1917: Honoured Distinguished Conduct Medal, 'No 2137 Sgt CW Davis has shown conspicuous bravery and initiative on several occassions under fire. From 15th Dec 1916 on the Somme front to end of January 1917 he acted as runner between the front line and Battalion HQ in which dangerous tasks he carried many messages under heavy shell fire setting a fine example of courage and devotion to duty and his comrades. At BEAUMETZ on the 24th March 1917 and at BULLECOURT on 12th May 1917 he handled his section with great courage and ability. His conduct has been of the highest order. Recommended for the Distinguished Conduct Medal.' Furthermore Sergeant Davis was mentioned in Sir Douglas Haig's Despatch of 7/11/17 for Distinguished and gallant services and devotion to duty in the field during the period of 26/02/17 to 20/09/17 dated 1/1/18.
