OBITUARY - J. McK. McLACHLAN
The death occurred in the Lismore Base Hospital of John McKenzie McLachlan, aged 82 years.
Mr. McLachlan, a retired dental surgeon, was born at Ulmarra, the son of Donald and Margaret (nee Macleod) McLachlan.
Mr. McLachlan returned to Grafton in 1910 to become a partner of Mr. J. H. Brodie in a dental practice at the corner of Fitzroy and Duke streets. In 1916, the residence was sold to the Diocese of Grafton and became the first Bishopsholme.
The same year, Mr. McLachlan joined the Fifth Light Horse military forces and later a dental unit in Egypt.
He returned to Grafton in 1919 and resumed his dental practice, building a surgery and residence in Fitzroy street.
In March 1920, he married Violet, daughter of the late Mr. and Mrs. R. R. Smith, of Victoria street, Grafton.
He had two sons and a daughter, Dr. Keith McLachlan, of Narromine, Frank McLachlan of Sydney, and Kathleen Erasmus of Sydney.
His only brother, Harold, predeceased him.
Mr. McLachlan was a member of the Returned Servicemen’s League and was keenly interested in gardening.
He was interested in flowers, mainly bulbs, grew beautiful ferns and had tropical fish. Funeral arrangements were by H. H. Sanders. - The Daily Examiner, Grafton, issue dated Monday July 25, 1966.
