1 Jan 1918: Honoured Meritorious Service Medal (MSM), 'He took part in the landing on GALLIPOLI and did excellent work, acting as Company Sergeant Major from July until November, 1915. After LONE PINE had been captured he directed the traffic, which was fast becoming a chaos, to an from the trenches taken. Later on he superintended the laying and firing of charges in LONE PINE tunnel where excellent results were obtained. Prior to the evacuation he laid several mines in the vicinity of LEANES trenches. At GEBEL HABIETA. As Section Sergeant he did excellent work and again at FLEURBAIX where he was made C.S.M. At POZIERES he was in the front line of trenches with the O.C. and again did admirable work. He enlisted in September, 1914, and has never been away from the Company. At all times he has performed his duties in a creditable and praiseworthy manner.'
