Biography contributed by Brea-May KAY

"THE LATE PRIVATE H. R. VOLBRECHT.

Private Henry Richard Volbrecht, who was killed in action on July 28, was 19 years of age. He was the son of Mr. and Mrs. J. Volbrecht, of Chicago." - from the Adelaide Chronicle 02 Sep 1916 (trove.nla.gov.au)

Henry Richard Volbrecht was born on the 7th May 1897 Adelaide, South Australia. He was born to John Volbrecht and Florence Volbrecht. It is unknown to whether he had any siblings. Before joining the force he was a milkman. Originally milk was only delivered daily as when they were refrigerated they would spoil quickly. It cost quite little to buy them. He grew up in the suburbs of Adelaide.

When he was 18 2/12 years in 1915 he joined the army. He enlisted on the 25th July, Keswick, South Australia. He was seen as fit to go to war. He was enlisted to the 27th Battalion. The 27th Battalion was sent to Gallipoli to help out the already tiring troops. Later on into the year he was transferred into the 10th Battalion to go to the frontline in France. He was later killed on the 25th July 1916 a year exactly to when he enlisted into the army.
