He was 28 and a son  of Robert and Teresa Elizabeth Hovenden, of Sherwood Rd., Merrylands, New South Wales, later of "Will-Fred," Cross St., South Strathfield, New South Wales.

His brother, Private Frederick Hovenden, aged 30 also fell. He was killed in France on 14th April 1918 and rests in Grave No. I. A. 26. at Ebblinghem Military Cemetery.
