Campaigns Served:   France

Promotions/War Service:   On 27 December 1917 he was in the 14th Battalion in Codford, Salisbury, Wiltshire, England. Admitted sick to No 4 Group Clearing Hospital on 25 January 1918. Back to unit on 7 February 1918. Proceeded overseas to France from Dover on 1 April 1918 to reinforce 1st Battalion. On 24 April 1918 he was Taken on Strength from 10 Reinforcement 55th Battalion to 1st Battalion and reallotted a Regimental Number of 3805A. Wounded in action on 27 May 1918 with a gunshot wound to abdomen and left leg, and admitted to 55th General Hospital. He rejoined his unit on 12 July 1918. Wounded in action (2nd occurrence) on 23 August 1918, and admitted to hospital on 24 August 1918, with a gunshot wound to left hand. He was discharged on 3 October 1918 and rejoined his battalion on 12 October 1918. In France until 15 May 1919, then back to England. Admitted sick to hospital in Bulford, Heytesbury, England, on 26 May 1919, and discharged on 17 June 1919. He left England to return to Australia on 23 July 1919.

Fate:   Returned to Australia per HMAT A38 Ulysses, 5 September 1919. He married Amy Selina Smith, 22 May 1920, St John's Church of England, Darlinghurst, NSW
