Robert Augustus Eastwell 1895-1976

Robert Eastwell was born on 22 March 1895 at Swan Creek via Warwick, Qld, the son of George Turner Eastwell and Emma Tanzer. At the age of 20, he enlisted for service in the Great War at Warwick on 18 February 1916. He was assigned Service No. 1634 with the 42nd Infantry Battalion.
On 5 June 1916, his battalion embarked aboard HMAT Borda in Sydney, sailing first to Egypt before continuing on to England, where they disembarked on 22 July 1916. By September, Robert was in France, joining the 9th Battalion at the front.
In 1917, while serving in Belgium, Robert was wounded in action on 13 October, suffering a shrapnel wound to his thigh. He was evacuated to England for treatment, but following his recovery, he returned once more to the front in France.
After years of service, Robert finally returned home to Australia in July 1919 aboard the Nestor.
On 21 April 1926, he married Elizabeth Gertrude May Lamke in Maryborough, and together they raised three children. Robert passed away in Maryborough on 1 November 1976, aged 81, and was laid to rest there.
