Oscar was the youngest of nine children of George Gridley (born 1849 in Suffolk, England) and Edith Hannah Burrell (born 1858 in Surrey, England). George - a Labourer - and Edith married in Brisbane, QLD in 1873.
Oscar was a Carpenter in Brisbane, QLD when he married Rosina (Ena) Louisa Johnson (born 1892 in Ipswich, QLD) in July 1916. In December 1916 Oscar enlisted in the AIF and served with 52nd Infantry Battalion and 4th Pioneers (Service No:370). Brother James (Service No:3095) served in WWI and brother Herbert Charles (Service No:Q268993) served in WWII. Brothers-in-Law Frederick Walter Johnson (Service No:1675), John Hinkley (Service No:5108), Alfred Ernest Johnson (Service No:5923) and Charles Albert Fry (Service No:5336) served in WWI.
Following his Discharge in January 1920, Oscar and Ena lived in Brisbane, QLD where Oscar worked as a Carpenter. Ena died in 1950 in Brisbane and Oscar remarried widow Margaret Hepburn Cairns (nee Grant, born 1895 in Scotland). Oscar and Margaret settled in Redcliffe, QLD, where Oscar worked as a Carpenter. He died in 1977 and Margaret died in 1981.
