Captain S R Hall - from the Adelaide Chronicle 08 May 1915

The late Captain Sydney Raymond Hall was 31 years of age, and received his first military appointment in the corps of signallers in March, 1911. He was transferred to the Engineers in July of the following year. The deceased was a son of Mr. T.W. Hall, land agent, of Unley, and resided with his wife and two young children at 48, Wattle-street, East Frewville. The widow is a daughter of Mr. John Drummond, of Sandford & Co., Adelaide. Born on December 17, 1883, Captain Hall entered the Civil Service (Education Department) in June, 1900, and in the following year was transferred to the Lands Titles Office. He always took a great interest in military matters, and prior to joining the first contingent of the Expeditionary Forces was in command of the 22nd Engineers in Adelaide. At the time of his departure Captain Hall was senior counter clerk in the Registrar-General of Deeds Office, Victoria-square. The Registrar-General (Mr. G. Wilfred Anthony) stated of him on Wednesday: —

"The sad announcement has cast a deep gloom over the department. He was a splendid fellow. I had the highest opinion of him as an officer and a man."
