Victor Godfrey BOTTOMLEY was born in 1893 in Boort, Victoria

His parents were William John BOTTOMLEY and Maria KNIGHT

He had previous service with the Light Horse Regiment (CMF) in Chinchilla, Victoria before he enlisted on 9th August, 1915 in Brisbane - he embarked from Sydney with the 11th Light Horse Regiment - 7th Re-inforcements on the 30th November, 1915 on the HMAT Suffolk

Victor was Killed in Action on 19th April, 1917 & was not buried at the time because of the hasty withdrawal of his unit - he was eventually buried on 21st January, 1918 and re-interred in Gaza Military Cemetery

Inscription reads:

'HE DIED FOR HIS KING AND COUNTRY"

His name is memorialised on the Australian War Memorial & he received the British War Medal & the Victory Medal.

His brother William Allen BOTTOMLEY (SN1315) also served in WW1 & returned to Australia in 1919
