Military Medal
"For conspicuous gallantry during an attack on enemy positions near Villers-Brettonneux. Volunteered as a stretcher bearer, and carried in wounded during the whole night under heavy shell and machine gun fire. After daylight he went out three times in front of our posts and brought in wounded althought sniped at the whole time.
Gazetted 14 March 1919
Alex returned to Australia 22 May 1919 and was discharged. He married Ada Jessie Allen and they had three sons, but sadly Ada died in 1932. Alex later remarried to Heather Shirley Lockie and they had a further three children.
His name is recorded on the Winton Methodist Chruch Honour Roll and State School.
