Son of Carl Theodore Ziegeler and Amy Amanda Ziegeler nee Schutz of Bouvarie Street, Easton, Bristol, England

On 4 June 1919 Desmond married Edith Louisa Trigger in Parish Church, Bristol, England. J. Nelson officiated

Commenced return to Australia on 25 September 1919 aboard HT Mahana disembarking on 12 November 1919 at Sydney for onward travel to Brisbane.

At the time of enlisting for WW2 Desmond was living at Edie Creek, New Guinea.
