Son of Robert James and Clara Smith, of Stirling Rd., Claremont, Western Australia. His younger brother, 4243 Pte. Charles Everard William Smith, 12th Battalion AIF, was killed in action near Mouquet Farm 19th/22nd Aug., 1916, age 20.
