'For gallantry and devotion to duty at BRAY on 24th August 1918, and at CLERY-sur-SOMME on 31st August, 1918. This Non Commissioned Officer was in charge of linesmen engaged in the maintenance of forward lines throughout the period indicated. Regardless of his own safety, he personally laid important lines under heavy shell fire, repeatedly displaying qualities of initiative and courage. He set an example, and by his own efforts, assisted greatly in maintaining forward communications during the Operations.'
