Son of William Grimmitt Vickers and Charlotte Vickers nee Stower of Rocky Creek, Millmerran, QLD.

Brother of Alfred Joseph Vickers who was killed in action on 28 March 1918 while serving with the 47th Battalion and has no known grave. His name appears on the Viller-Vretonneux Memorial and also Harold George Vickers who was killed in action on 15 March 1917 and is buried in the Beaulencourt British Cemetery Plot 1, Row G, Grave 9.

Commenced return to Australia on 13 March 1919 aboard HT Ulimaroa disembarking on 19 April 1919 at Melbourne for onward travel to Sydney
