Private Norman Ward (Service No:6881) enlisted in the AIF on 6 February 1919 with 11th Depot Battalion, and was attached to 25th Infantry Battalion on 14 June 1917 when he embarked with his Unit from Sydney for Liverpool on board HMAT A20 Hororata. Private Ward served on the Western Front, and embarked from England for Brisbane on 22 December 1918 on board HMT Bakara. He 'overstayed his pass' (NAA) in Fremantle, and then embarked for Brisbane on 18 March 1919 on board SS Wyandra. Private Ward was attached to 25th Battalion at Discharge on 17 May 1919. In WWII, Private Ward (Service No:Q303712) served in the ACMF with Garrison Battalions (1, 14, 15 and 32) from 19 July 1940 to 19 October 1945. Older brother Harold and son Francis also served in WWII.

Born in Brisbane, QLD in 1895, Norman was fifth of seven children of Luke Ward (b1856 in Shropshire, England) and Ellen Jane Jones (b1858 in Herefordshire, England). Luke (a Farm Labourer) and Ellen married in Shropshire in 1886 and immigrated the following year - arriving in Brisbane on board the Ormuz. Luke and Ellen settled in Brisbane, where they raised their family and Luke worked as a Labourer and Carrier/Carter.

Norman was working in Brisbane as a Hairdresser in 1917 when he enlisted in the AIF. In 1922 in Brisbane he married Jane Elizabeth Martin (b1897 in Brisbane, QLD). Norman and Jane settled in Brisbane, where they raised their family and Norman worked as a Hairdresser, Barber and Labourer. Following his Discharge from the Army in 1945, Norman listed his occupation in the Electoral Rolls as 'Soldier'. Norman died in 1965 and Jane in 1997.
