Lillian was born on 19 January 1882 in Sydney, New South Wales, Australia, the much loved daughter of Thomas Albert Hetherington (1835–1896) and Jessie Elizabeth Smith (1850–1942)Her siblings were Thomas Albert Hetherington, Edith Alice (Hetherington) Richards, William Alfred Hetherington, Jessie Mabel (Hetherington) Martin, Alfred Robert Hetherington and Elsie Mildred (Hetherington) Starr and the Aunt of many nephews and nieces.
The following details not fully verbatum but are taken from her Obituary on Page 2 of the Warwick Daily News (Qld.: Dated: Sat 10 Oct 1953.
"She was a war nurse in the 1914-18 war where she served with honour, and in recognition of her services in Salonika, Greece, she was awarded a Military Medal by the Greek Government".
After returning home after the war, to Sydney, she continued with her nursing career, before taking up the Matron Position at the Warwick Hospital in 1931, where she worked up until her retirement on 5 January 1948. She returned to her hometown of Sydney where she lived until her death.
Lillian died suddenly in Sydney on 2 October 1953 and was cremated at the Northern Suburbs Crematorium, North Ryde, New South Wales, Australia where her ashes are interred in the Crescent Court Wall 5.
