One of the three soldier sons of John and Susannah Corry of Picola West. He was a noted member of the local football club. James had married Ruby Lilian in 1916, just before he left for overseas. James was killed near Messines in Belgium. His younger brother, 4400 Sergeant Vivian Charles Corry 22nd Battalion AIF was killed in action, 18 April 1918, age 20. A third brother 3068 Driver Archibald Arthur Corry, 59th Battalion AIF, returned to Australia, 8 April 1919.
