Death of Mr. R. R. Nugent, of Pomona

A link with the oldest pioneering days of the Noosa Shire was severed recently by the death of Mr. Ronald Reginald Nugent at his home, Oaklands, at Pomona. The deceased gentleman, who was widely, respected, had been in failing health for some time, and his death was not unexpected.

Born in England on November 17, 1856 (the youngest son of the late
Dr. Richard Nugent, of Cloebury - Mortimer Salop), he had reached the age of almost 82 years.

He came to Australia in the ship Great Britain 66 years ago and
entered the office of Mr. A. J. Thynne. solicitor, Brisbane. Despite his advanced years, he enlisted for the Great War, and served with his three sons, Reginald, Arthur, and Herbert. He was a prominent Free-
mason, an active Justice of the Peace, and district Coroner.

He married Miss Mary Salter, and the couple had 14 children, of  hom there survive Frederick (Northgate), James and Arthur  Pomona), Reginald (Cootharaba), Herbert (Brisbane), Edward
( Mackay), Roy (Murgon), also Mesdames T. P. Horsman (Brisbane), A. Miller (Coorparoo), D. Bradford (Wahpunga), S. Maher (Many Peaks), and Miss E. Nugent (Pomona). The funeral was largely attended, moving from deceased's late residence to the Cooranomona cemetery. The Rev. J. H. Steer (Gympie) officiated at the graveside.
