Phillip Young was born near the town of Long Plains in South Australia in August 1883. His parents were called Elias and Susanna (Sainsbury) and he was one of 10 children. At enlistment he weighed 79kg, was also 5'7 "tall, and had a chest size of 37 inches. His religion was Methodist and Phillip's eye colour was brown, and he had light brown hair. He worked as a Farmer and Agent before enlisting.
Young served at Gallipoli and the Western Front
