Awarded, and promulgated, 'London Gazette' No. 31089 (31 December 1918); 'Commonwealth Gazette' No. 61 (23 May 1919).

David was born 21 January 1894 at Port Fairy the son of Andrew James Ednie and his wife Agnes Pekin.

He attended the Port Fairy Primary School.

David had served two years with the Light Horse and was a Clerk when he enlisted 5 July 1915 and with the 6th Battalion, 12th Reinforcement he embarked from Melbourne, on board HMAT A40 Ceramic on 23 November 1915.  On 20 October 1918 as Sergeant he was selected to attend Infantry Cadet Battalion commencing in November in England.

David rose through the ranks becoming a Lieutenant  on 25 April 1919.

On 29 August 1919 David returned home on board HT Persic having served in France

In 1920 David married Mary Constance Elliott nèe Webb and their son Howard Heywood was born in 1921.

In the Electoral Rolls  of 1926  and 1927 David was a Barman living with his parents and siblings at 60 High Street in Malvern.

David died at the 11 July 1929 at the Caulfield Military Hospital, Caulfield, 11 July 1929 and was buried in the family grave at the Brighton Cemetery at Presbyterian Q grave 514.
