3768 Private Thomas Joseph Dawes, 5th Battalion A.I.F. killed in action at Hill 63 at Messines having volunteered for a bombing raid, 1st July 1916. aged 19 yrs 11 mths

Extract from his Roll Of Honour Circular at AWM;

'while on board ship he was very ill, thinking he was dying he wrote to his mother saying farewell, put it in a bottle, dropped it into the sea, 4 months after, it was found and sent to his mother in Eaglehawk, but he had arrived in Egypt safely'

Buried at the Royal Berks Cemetery, Ploegsteert, Belgium.
