Son of Charles Hugo and Elizabeth (Bessie) Hugo nee Oates of Caulfield, Victoria. Brother of Herbert James Hugo who return to Australia on 8 July 1919 having served with the 6th Field Artillery Brigade

Commenced return to Australia on 30 June 1918 aboard HS Kanowna disembarking on 15 July 1918

During 1919c Fred married Violet R. Redmond in Perth, WA.
