25 Mar 1919: Discharged AIF WW1, Private, 14580, Divisional Ammunition Column, Returned to Australia on "SS Karmala" from the UK War Hospital Bath on 2.1.19 after suffering a fractured elbow in France.

Two enlistments.

George Gibbs enlisted along with his uncle, Peter Francis Beaton on the 24/7/15. He was given the SERN of 3115 and gave his full name of George William Gibbs at enlistment. He did not attend for embarkation however in November of that year and his enlistment stalled. He again enlisted on the 29/12/15 as George Gibbs, omitting his christian name William. He was given the SERN 14580 and later embarked for overseas duty in France.
There is no known family explanation for his failure to embark on the first enlistment or his re enlistment under a truncated name.
