21 Aug 1917: Honoured Military Medal, Battle of Messines, For gallant conduct and heroism on 1 July 1917 near Messines Hill after the transport column carrying rations he was accompanying was shelled - he pulled wounded men out of the debris and to shelter in a shell hole before seeking and assisting AMC personal to evacuate the wounded under heavy shell fire. He then organised the recovery and transfer of the rations to forward areas.
