Son of Thomas Henry Uren and Betsy Finley Uren nee Cairns of 'Woodville', Morehead Street, South Townsville, QLD formerly of Charters Towers, QLD. 

1 April 1916 - enlisted with the 41st Battalion and with the rank of 2nd Lieutenant

1 November 1916 - promoted to Lieutenant

24 April 1917 - promoted to Captain

8 June 1917 - gassed at Messines but remained on duty for several hours
