He is also commemorated on the Burray War Memorial on Burray, one of the Orkney Islands in Scotland. It lies to the east of Scapa Flow.

Stepson of of Barbara S Banks, 7 Iona St; Leith. Address: Smeaton House, Inveresk. Brought up in Mussleburgh. Enlisted in Kings Own Scottish Borderers at age 16. Saw Service in Egypt & Sudan. Walked 150 miles to enlist.

He is remembered on the Musselburgh War Memorial in  East Lothian
