Son of John J and Annie Cusbert, Dural via Parramatta, New South Wales
Howard died after an accident while riding his motor bike on the Windsor Road. Harold had tried to avoid a child on the road and ended up colliding with a dog. He was able to get up, go to the library and then return home, where he died.
The Late Mr. Cusbert.
Our Dural correspondent writes that Mr. Howard Cusbert, the circumstances of whose lamented death on July 4th have already been published, was a great favorite in Dural and the surrounding districts. He spent eighteen months in France during the late war fighting for his King and country and returned home in January of last year. Prior to enlistin he was a public school teacher, but after his return decided to stay at home with his parents and youngest sister. His mother, who was ill at the time, died soon after her son's return. Mr. Cusbert's burial took place the day following his death, and was largely attended, people conming from Dural and the surrounding districts to show their last respects to one they loved. Mr. Cusbert being a returned soldier, his coffin was coveted with the Union Jack and carried by six returned soldiers from the house to the hearse and again from the hearse to the grave in the Methodist cemetery. The Rev. Mr. Dwyer officiated and gave a very impressive address. A great many wreaths were placed on the grave. The funeral was conducted by Mr. W. Metealfe. An in quest will be held at Parramatta Courthouse on Friday next.
DOG CAUSES DEATH.
The Parramatta Coroner held an inquest concerning the death of Howard. Robert Cusbert, 33, an orchardist and a returned soldier, who died on July 4 at Dural. He was a well known and popular resident of the Hills district. Evidence was given that through running over a dog near the woollen mills he was thrown from his bicycle, and received an injury to his head. He went to the School of Arts at Parramatta, and later rode home. Subsequently he com plained of feeling ill, and medical assistance was obtained, but he died within a few hours. A verdict of accidental death was returned.
