Pte Bertram John MURPHY

After leaving school he worked with his father in the orchard and bakery business up till he enlisted. He was a member of the Methodist Church and when killed Lieut Allan Carter wrote "I owed much to Bert for during our long marches and weary nights of waiting his natural gifts of humor always cheered the men along".
