Percy left Adelaide on the Seeang Bee on 10 February 1917, disembarking at Devonport, England on 2 May and proceeded to France with the 50th Battalion on 6 August. He sustained shrapnel wounds to the right arm in action on 11 October and was treated at a Casualty Clearing Station before being able to rejoin his unit. Percy was shot in the chest on 11 September 1918. His mother, Hannah was notified on 26 September of her son being wounded on a second occasion. Before returning to Australia at the war’s end he was admitted to the Auxiliary Hospital at Southampton, England with measles. Percy returned to Australia on the Swakopmund on 15 June 1919 and was discharged on 7 September.
