Cyril Stanley Greenwood was the 10th of 13 children of John Joseph Greenwood and Sarah Ann Craker. Two of Cyril's brothers - Arthur George and Frederick William also served in the AIF in WWI.

Cyril was a Farm Hand in Gippsland, Victoria when he enlisted in the AIF in Melbourne, Victoria on 28 February 1916. He was Wounded in Action in France on two occasions, and following his Discharge on 28 August 1919, Cyril returned to Gippsland, Victoria, married and initially farmed at Morwell, before working as a Labourer in Gippsland,

By 1943 Cyril had moved to Melbourne, Victoria where he was employed as a Lift Attnedant
