George Stewart was the youngest of three brothers from Ormeau, near the Gold Coast in Queensland, who died with the AIF during WW1.
George fought in France from August 1917. He was killed in action during an advance by the 25th Battalion near Villiers Bretonneux.
His older brother, 1611 Pte. Robert Stewart, 15th Field Ambulance, Australian Army Medical Corps, had died of wounds on 9 October 1917, aged 32. Another older brother, 2442A Pte. William Stewart 9th Battalion AIF, was killed in action only three weeks later on 1 November 1917, aged 30. They were all the sons of Robert and Jane Ann Stewart, of Ormeau, Queensland.
