Brother of Edward O'Toole who was killed in action on 28 March 1917 while serving with the 50th Battalion and is buried in the Vaux Hill Cemetery, Plot 111, Row B, Grave 13

Commenced return to Australia on 15 June 1919 aboard HT Essex disembarking on 22 July 1919
