Medals: 1914-15 Star, British War Medal, Victory Medal

He had attempted to enlist a months earlier but was rejecting due to his lack of military knowldge and handling of weapons

On the 6th August 1915, Private Theodore Northcote Windross, also known as Snowy and Tom, 2nd Battalion (Reg No-1195), driver from Toronto, New South Wales, was Killed in Action at the Battle of Lone Pine, Gallipoli Campaign, age 24.

Born at Newcastle, New South Wales on the 9th May 1891 to John (died 12.7.1929, age 73 and Rosalie Ada E S Windross (died 16.11.1940, age 79) of The Boulevarde, Toronto, New South Wales and 7 Roslyn Street, Bellevue Hill, N.S.W., Snowy enlisted on the 25th September 1914 at Toronto, N.S.W.

Unit embarked from Melbourne, Victoria on board HMAT A32 Themistocles on the 22nd December 1914.
Admitted to hospital 4.6.1915 (influenza).

Reported missing between the 7th and 14th August 1915.

Snowy is believed to be resting at the Lone Pine Cemetery, Gallipoli, Turkey. Sp. Mem Row C Grave 78.

Mr. Windross’s name has been inscribed on the Book of Gold, Toronto & District Soldiers' Memorial, Toronto Public School Roll of Honour, Toronto Red Cross Honour Roll and The Capt. Clarence Smith Jeffries (V.C.) and Pte. William Matthew Currey (V.C.) Memorial Wall.

Place of Association – Toronto, New South Wales, Australia.

I have placed poppies at the Windross memorialised gravesite in remembrance of their son’s service and supreme sacrifice for God, King & Country. ANGLICAN 2-142. 19.
