Killed in action at Romani Egypt 5 August 1915.

His brothers both won the Military Medal; 6253 Private Albert Edward Dunkinson M.M. 4th Battalion AIF, returned to Australia 31 May 1919 and 6537 Private Ernest Dunkinson M.M. 18th Battalion AIF, returned to Australia 22 September 1919.
