Son of William Sherwood Vernon and Emily May Vernon nee Martindale of High Street, Glen Iris, Victoria formerly of Donald, Victoria.

Brother of Arthur Vernon who returned to Australia on 7 April 1919 having served with the 1st Australian Casualty Clearing Station; Thomas Seaton  who returned to Australia on 15 December 1919 having served with the Australian Army Pay Corps

Apprenticed to J.M. Miller of Collins Street, Melbourne for three years.

Commenced return to Australia on 30 October 1919 aboard HT Wahehe

During 1944c Ronald married Jane Lomond Barker in Victoria
