Douglas Greer Quinn was a soldier who served in the 27th Infantry Battalion and later in the 7th Light Trench Mortar Battery. He was born on the 12th of August 1896 and died on the 15th of June, 1975 from an unknown cause.

Early Life

Douglas Greer Quinn was born in Rankine Road, Mile End, South Australia to parents George Quinn and Alethea Rose Quinn née Clark. His hometown was Mile End, City of West Torrens, South Australia. He attended Thebarton School until c. 1909, Hindmarsh High School between 1910-1912, and Muirden College at an unknown time. He enlisted in the army as a student at 19 years old. His religion was the Church of England (C. of E.). He was a farmer at 22 years old. At the time of enlisting he was single.

Military Career

Before enlisting in for WW1, Quinn had previously served for 2 years in the senior cadets 15th Battalion. On the 6th of December 1915, at 19 years old, Quinn enlisted in the AIF WW1, as a Private. His unit was the 27th Infantry Battalion. The location was in Adelaide, South Australia. 

On the 9th of March 1916, he embarked on the RMS Mongolia in Adelaide. At this time, he was a Private serving in the 27th Infantry Battalion, 10th Reinforcement.

He was honoured on the 16th of March 1917. He was mentioned in Despatches: London Gazette on 11 July 1919, page 8833, position 120, and Commonwealth of Australia Gazette on 30 October 1919, page 1660, position 26.

On the 3rd of May 1917, he was wounded in the right arm.

On the 16th of October 1917, he was transferred to the 7th Light Trench Mortar Battery from the 27th Battalion.

On the 15th of May 1919, Quinn commenced his return to Australia. He went aboard the HT Ypiringa disembarking on 2nd of July 1919. He successfully returned to Australia.

On the 28th of August 1919, Quinn was discharged from the AIF (WW1) as a Corporal with Unit 7th Light Trench Mortar Battery. Quinn was discharged from the 4th Military District.

Quinn died in South Australia and at the time of his death, he was a grazier at Kybybolite, South Australia. He was cremated on 19th of June 1975, four days after he died. His remains lie in the Centennial Park Cemetery, South Australia.
