War Service/Promotions: Taken on Strength at Moascar, Egypt, 24 August 1916. Admitted to Isolation Camp, Moascar, on 25 August 1916. Rejoined unit on 23 September 1916. To be Temporary Sergeant 25 September 1916, then to be Temp. Corporal the same day. Marched out on 30 September 1916. Proceeded to School of Instruction, Moascar, 29 October 1916. He passed his Machine Gun Course on 20 November 1916, as 1st Class Instructor, Zeitoun, Egypt. Reverts to Trooper 4 December 1916. Transferred to 2nd Brigade Machine Gun Squadron, Moascar on 11 December 1916. On 8 May 1918 he was working as a Sapper with Signal Training Unit. Cecil was in Egypt until 24 May 1918 when he embarked at Alexandria, Egypt, for England via Marseilles, France, per HT Indarra, on a cadetship with the Australian Flying Corps. 5 June 1918 he was an aircraft mechanic in A.F.C. Training Depot. Marched into No 2 School of Aeronautics, Oxford, England from A.F.C. Depot, Wendover, on 5 July 1918. Transferred from 2nd Machine Gun Squadron, on 5 July 1918. Transferred from AFC Depot to 7th Training Squadron AFC on 25 September 1918. Posted to RAF Armament School, 2nd Aircraft Mechanic, AFC Training Depot. On 5 February 1919, having graduated, is appointed Flight Officer (Pilot) and to be 2nd Lieutenant in the AIF. Promoted Lieutenant 5 May 1919. Cecil took leave (with pay and subsistence) from 16 March 1919 to 15 June 1919, to attend woollen industry training with C. Balenc & Co., 61 Basinghall St., London. After return to A.I.F. Headquarters, London, 15 June 1919, he was sent to No. 2 Group Sutton Veny, Wiltshire, England, then marched back to 20 Belgrave Square, London. Left England to return to Australia 8 July 1919.
Fate: Returned to Australia per HT Zealandic, arriving 23 August 1919. He married (1) Jean Williamson, 9 September 1922, St Mark's Church, Darling Point, NSW. Jean died in 1951. He married (2) Nita Loane Lindeman, 12 August 1953, St Mark's Church, Darling Point, NSW.
