Iris EVERETT was born in Oamaru, South Island, New Zealand.
She was the daughter of William Henry EVERETT (1855-1929) and Alice Chistina nee GORDON. Iris's father was a draper - from the well known Nelson, NZ, drapery family Everett Bros Ltd.
Iris's grandfather - Edward Henry EVERETT (1820-1904) established the very successful drapery business - in Nelson, NZ - Everett Bros Ltd. This business ran from 1864 to 1913.
London-born Edward Everett had emigrated from England to Canada in the 1840s- where he married the daughter (Hannah Maria POPE : 1826-1900) of the SW Point Anti Costi Island, Quebec, Canada lighthouse keeper - Edward POPE. The Popes were originally from Guernsey Island, UK.
Iris's father (William Henry EVERETT) and his family moved from New Zealand to Australia (date unknown). William's brother - Edward EVERETT (1848-1928) had moved with his family - to Sydney - in 1891 and settled in the Wahroonga area of NSW.
Iris Everett enlisted with the Australian Army Nursing Service (AANS) - on 30 August 1916. She was aged 29 years.
Her next-of-kin was given as her father - William Henry Everett - (born 1855 Auckland, New Zealand; Died Gordon, NSW 1929) - of "Theace", 24 Nelson Street, Gordon, North Shore Sydney, NSW.
Iris Everett embarked for overseas war service - on RMS "Kashgar" - on 2 September 1916 - from Sydney to Bombay, India.
Iris Everett served at war hospitals at Bombay; Deccan War Hospital (Poona) and at a war hospital in Belgaum.
Iris Everett resigned her appointment, as Staff Nurse with the AANS, on 11 December 1917 - as she was to marry (Philiip Hensley-Henson)- on 12 December 1917.
Iris Hensley-Henson returned to Australia.
Iris Hensley-Henson (born Everett) died on 24 April 1981. She was 94 years of age. Her ashes were interred at Northern Suburbs Memorial Garden, Delhi Road, North Ryde, NSW, Australia.
