1039 Lance Corporal Walter Compton an iron moulder of Collingwood, Victoria who enlisted with 22nd Battalion and served on Gallipoli. Transferred to the 6th MGC whilst In Egypt in 1916 and sailed for France. Walter was Killed in Action 11th April 1917 in front of Bullecourt, being buried along the railway-cutting by his Unit.
