Biography contributed by Claude McKelvey
Served in both the South African (Boer) War and WW1. In the official 1901 nominal roll for The 5th Queensland Imperial Bushmen Contingent his name was recorded incorrectly as Robert Balfred Jackson. It is noted that when he enlisted in 1915 for WW1, under his birth name of Robert Balford Jackson, his Attestation Form notes his previous service in the 5th QIB.
When Robert Balford Jackson enlisted in 1901 in the 5th QIB and his details were published (under Robert Balfred Jackson) in The Queenslander, 16 Mar 1901, he noted his N.O.K. as his mother Mrs. E. Jackson, Barcaldine.
When he enlisted again in 1915 for WW1 he noted on his Attestation Form, dated 8 Mar 1915, that; he was born at Emerald and was 34 Years 11 months of age; he was single and working as a miner; his N.O.K. was his mother Elizabeth Jackson Barcaldine; and he had previously served in South Africa with the 5th QIB.
Robert Balford Jackson was born on 5 Apr 1880 at Emerald, a son to James Jackson and Elizabeth Jackson (nee McCall).
