Son of  Thomas Coulsen Vines and Ada Vines nee Maidwell of Theddingworth, New Rugby, England. Brother of Percy Vines who returned to Australia on 4 July 1919 having served with the 47th Battalion

Commenced return to Australia on 15 November 1918 disembarking on 26 December 1918
