Embarked from Alexandria to join the British Expeditionary Force, 16 June 1916; disembarked Marseilles, France, 23 June 1916.
Wounded in action, 20 July 1916 (gun shot wound, neck); rejoined Bn, 30 October 1916.
On leave to England, 16 January 1917; rejoined unit from leave, 6 February 1917.
Admitted to 8th Australian Field Ambulance, 9 April 1917 (septic leg); rejoined unit, 30 April 1917.
Appointed Lance Corporal, 11 June 1917.
Proceeded to 8th Training Bn and placed on supernumerary list, 28 September 1917. Promoted Corporal, 1 October 1917. Retransferred to 31st Bn, and proceeded overseas to France, 1 May 1918. Promoted Temporary Sergeant, 15 October 1918.
Commenced return to Australia on board 'Devanah', 8 May 1919; disembarked Melbourne, 23 June 1919; discharged, 15 August 1919.
