69 years ago today, on the 18th November 1955, Trooper Martin Christopher Cridland, 11th Australian Light Horse Regiment (Reg No-116), farm labourer from Parkes Street, Cowra, New South Wales and Mayfield?, N.S.W., was laid to rest at Sandgate Cemetery, age 66. ANGLICAN 1-23. 63.

Born at Molong, New South Wales on the 4th January 1889 to Martin Christopher, died 11.10.1934, Cowra, N.S.W., age 70, and Elizabeth (Eliza) Cridland nee Sykes, died 31.1.1945, Lewisham, N.S.W., age 88, mother of 3, no funeral or death notice located; husband of Edith Evelyn Cridland nee Howe, married 1923, Wickham, N.S.W., died 24.7.1975, Newcastle, N.S.W., age 80, sleeping here, Martin enlisted on the 5th January 1915 at Hughenden, Queensland.

Unit embarked from Brisbane, Queensland on board HMAT A30 Borda on the 16th June 1915.

Admitted to hospital 1.8.1917 (rheumatism), 17.8.1917 (rheumatic fever).
Wounded in action - 7.11.1917 (GSW right hand).

Commenced return to Australia 22.7.1919.

Martin arrived home on the 28th August 1919, being discharged on the 29th October 1919.

Mr. Cridland’s name has been inscribed on the Cowra and District Great War Honor Roll and The Capt. Clarence Smith Jeffries (V.C.) and Pte. William Matthew Currey (V.C.) Memorial Wall.

I have placed poppies at Martin’s gravesite in remembrance of his service and sacrifice for God, King & Country.
