Son of Terence O'Connor and Catherine O'Connor nee Murphy of Tralee, County Kerry, Ireland.

Marital status at the time of enlistment was given as widower. His late wife was Rose Ann O'Connor nee Lynch. William and Rose married during 1890c.

Previously served it the Boer War for seventeen months.

Next of kin was given as his son Patrick O'Connor C/- Mr Fitzgerald, Grocer, Valley, Brisbane, QLD. Later changed to his brother Daniel O'Connor of Red Hill, QLD.

Commenced return to Australia on 21 July 1917 aboard HT Euripides disembarking on 18 September 1917 at Melbourne for onward travel to Brisbane
