Andrew James Dearman

Andrew James Dearman was born at Castambul, near Forest Range on the 19th October 1895. At the age of 19 he enlisted in Adelaide on the 6th August 1915, with his next of kin, Mrs Eliza Collins of Basket Range giving consent, “ for my son Andrew James Dearman to enlist for active service”. {NAA B2455, 3086.} After a short period of service in Alexandria, Egypt, Dearman fought in France being promoted to Lance Corporal then Corporal.
Dearman was wounded in action in France on the 6th November 1916 receiving gunshot wounds to his leg and left shoulder, which necessitated extensive hospitalisation in England until May 1917. As a result he was sent home to Australia, arriving in Adelaide on the 21st September 1917.
Dearman was discharged due to being medically unfit on the 23rd October 1917. He and his wife Florence Dearman were granted a pension on the 15th April 1918.
Andrew James Dearman died on the 19th January 1978.
